Garbage & Recycling

To keep from detracting from the appearance of our community, rules have been put in place to ensure that garbage and recyclables are properly handled and stored.

General Rules

  • Garbage and recyclables are not to be stored outside of your unit.
  • Garbage and recyclables are not to be left out sooner than 8 PM the night before the garbage pick-up.

Collection Schedule

Household garbage is collected every Wednesday morning.

Green bin organic recycling is collected every Friday morning.

Blue box recycleables are picked up every Friday morning.

Garbage should be placed at the end of your personal walkway no later than 6:45 AM and no earlier than 8:00 PM. (Toronto By-law) the previous evening.  Plastic bags must be securely tied and weigh less than 20 Kilograms.  If boxes are used, they must be securely tied or taped.  Only 3 grocery type bags will be picked up – should you use more, they must be placed in a larger garbage bag.  Loose boxes and open bags will not be collected.  Our landscaping crew is not expected to pick up building materials, furniture, carpets or appliances.

Green Bin Recycling

Organic material recycling will begin on June 19, 2012.  Kitchen catchers will be delivered to each unit prior to this date.  Residents are encouraged to recycle organic material in order to reduce the volume of garbage we set out for pick-up.  We are billed for garbage, not for recycling!

Organic material should be bagged in either a shopping bag or one of the smaller plastic bags that are sold in stores specifically for the kitchen catchers.  These bags should be tied.  Do not use ties to seal the bags.  Green bins will be placed by each door to the underground garage.  Residents can either drop the bags into these green bins, or, leave them on your personal walkway for Thursday morning pick-up.

Blue Box Recycling

Clear Plastic Recycling bags should be placed at the end of your personal walkway no later than 6:45 a.m. Friday mornings and no earlier than 8:00 p.m. (Toronto By-law) the previous evening.  Please do not put loose cardboard boxes of any size, or boxes full of folded boxes out for recycling.  The City will not take them.  Cardboard boxes must be flattened and tied in bundles no larger than 2’ x 2’ x 1’.  Place beside your recycling bags for pick up.  If these procedures are not followed, this material must be picked up and stored for disposal on regular garbage days.  If it is left out, it becomes an unsightly mess and is annoying to residents near the area.

The Toronto recycling number is 416 338-2010.

Appliance Disposal

To arrange for the collection of large appliances, such as stoves, fridges, freezers, washers, dryers and dishwashers, you MUST contact the City of Toronto for the appropriate disposal of all metal items – the number is 416 338-2010.

Residents are responsible for moving such items to the Old Burnhamthorpe Rd. boulevard.    For safety reasons, please ensure that all fridge and freezer doors are closed and properly secured or removed from your appliance before placing at the curb for collection.
